Under Cover
I love it when I’m at a show and a band adds a few covers to their set. It adds a whole new familiarity to the performance, and in a strange way makes you feel immediately more comfortable than you may have already.
Lately there’s been a lot of Tom Petty and The Tragically Hip; I think it’s been wonderful. You get a fresh take on a favourite. The crowd (nearly) always goes all in, and it makes for a pretty special moment as your shared love of a known song allows you to connect in a new way with those around you.
This playlist is built entirely of covers. I hope there are covers in here that you’ve not yet heard, and I hope there are songs you’ve long loved without even knowing that they weren’t an original. I hope that this gives a fresh take on the tracks you’ve been singing at full volume for years before now.
Dig in, and enjoy!
Ps. If you’re feelin’ a little frisky – I built an “A-sides” list; made of the exact same songs in the exact same order – but by the original artist (save for Hard Sun, because pesky Indio isn’t on Spotify… EDIT: …and Lights’ covers album was pulled from Spotify, so there’s a little A-sides Drake “bonus”)! How do you think she compares? Get ‘er here: ALBON & The A-Sides: VII Uncovered
